Out and about

We have been out and about trying out the local "cuisine". The other day we said to Robin that we wanted to try something quintessentially American. She suggested either TGIFriday or Chili's. We decided that night on Chilie's. So here we are.

The food was a little "Mexican" inpired. Really just TexMex. Good, but a lot.

It is on a road that is a bit freaky. Actually they are both there. Within about 4 blocks there are about 50 fast food joints or restaurant type places (knife/fork/cup symbols). There are also about 15 motels (bed symbols) and 3 malls (bag symbols). The reason for that is it is the main route from the highway into Lafayette.

When Jo arrived yesterday, we took him to TGIFriday. Yep, fried cheese, fried potato, fried chicken, buffalo wings, steak, ribs and shrimp. That's about it. Oh, of course, BEER! That was the main reason for going there. It was good and the service was great. Quite cheap too for 3 of us with beer and appetisers. By the way, over here, they have appetisers, salads, entrees and desserts. Yep, that's right, entree here means main course. Don't say it. We know. !*!*!*!

Of course there are slightly less Americanised places like Nine Brothers. A good Irish Catholic family that settled in the area with nine brothers and four sisters. I say less Americanised and not Irish restaurant because the foodstuff is either American (fried cheese, buffalo wings) or weird Irish, like Irish pizza with cabbage, corned beef, sour cream and potato on puff pastry, and shepards pie with beef not lamb. Something happened. At least they had Irish beer. They also had US brewed Irish beer that was really nice and we can get in the supermarket for $14 for 20 stubbies, so a great deal. It was Killians and is seen below. Of course, it was before this latest cold snap, when it was still 80F at 6pm and the sun is in full splendor because it doesn't set until 9pm.

So that's our out and about for now. Will let you know about future culinary experiences (the ones not had à la Llew).

Where I Am said...

Glad to see that you guys are having fun there. Hope the weather gets warmer so there would be more occasions of enjoyable afternoon for us to see. =) It's quite hot here in Thailand and just a perfect time for 'water festival' or Songkran. =D
